Division of Health and Clinical Data ICT infrastructure establishment and implementation of artificial intelligence for clinical and medical research
|Key Fields||Health and Clinical Data Project|
|R&D phase||Basic Study, Applied Study, Nonclinical Study/Pre-clinical Study, Clinical Study, Clinical Trials, Post Marketing, Clinical Research, None|
An effort to develop ICT infrastructure that utilizes the results of medical data analysis has been addressed in a fully integrated manner by the government of Japan.
The Council on the Next-Generation Medical ICT Infrastructure (hereinafter, referred to as “the Council") was established under the Headquarters for Healthcare and Medical Strategy Promotion.
The Council advances the standardization of data exchanges as the foundational infrastructure in the existing medical and other database programs. It also collects digitized data, including outcome data from medical practice, on a large scale and presents them in a certain standard format. This initiative expands the initial infrastructure by establishing a number of new programs that make use of data for clinical research.
The Council seeks to improve and consolidate existing database systems to promote data analysis and utilization. Further studies, such as clinical research, are necessary to develop the ICT infrastructure , which ultimately aims to promote the availability of medical information by ensuring data compatibility and portability through mapping with electronic chart information using standardized medical data stored in electronic health record (EHR) systems, including SS-MIX2.*
This program promotes the development of the ICT infrastructure of clinical research, primarily by institutions with advanced ICT-related technology to provide the evidence necessary to improve the quality of medical care in Japan. Equalization, support for clinical practice, and clinical development of medical technology originating from Japan may also be enhanced by this program.
