News Releases & Research Results Launch of an investigator-initiated clinical trial of a medical robot for needle insertion (Zerobot®) developed at Okayama University

News Releases & Research Results

Outline

The results of collaborative research and development (R&D) conducted by Professor Takao Hiraki of the Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Associate Professor Tetsushi Kamegawa of the Okayama University Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems; Associate Professor Takayuki Matsuno of the Okayama University Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology; and others.

The key results of research are as follows:

  • An investigator-initiated clinical trial using a medical robot for needle insertion (Zerobot®) developed at Okayama University through medicine-engineering collaboration for the purpose of cancer diagnosis and treatment has been launched in June 2020.
  • In the trial, precision of the insertion by the robot and the human hand will be compared, and cancer ablation therapy using the robot will also be performed.
  • The results of this R&D should contribute to the early commercialization of the medical robot for needle insertion.

This R&D project was conducted with support from the Practical Research for Innovative Cancer Control by AMED.
