News Releases & Research Results Start of operation of a pathological diagnosis network and verification of an AI diagnosis system

Collaborative research conducted by the Department of Pathology, Tokushima University Hospital (Director and Professor Hisanori Uehara) and The Japanese Society of Pathology (Chairman Masanobu Kitagawa).

• To compensate for the serious shortage of pathologists (*) , two medical institutions in Tokushima Prefecture (JA-Tokushima Kouseiren Yoshinogawa Medical Center and JA-Tokushima Kouseiren Anan Medical Center) and Tokushima University Hospital collaborated to launch the Tokushima Telepathology Network.
  * Tokushima Prefecture is facing a serious shortage of pathologists, with the number of pathologists ranking the ninth worst in Japan (2018).
• Specifically, the effectiveness of an AI-based diagnostic system by gastric biopsy was verified through the network.

This research project was conducted with the support of ICT Infrastructure Establishment and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence for Clinical and Medical Research by AMED.
