We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. SAKAGUCHI Shimon, Distinguished Professor at the Immunology Frontier Research Center at Osaka University, on receiving the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
We are truly delighted and deeply honored by this recognition of the outstanding achievements of immunology  research conducted at Japanese universities and research institutions.

Dr. SAKAGUCHI along with Dr. Mary Brunkow and Dr. Fred Ramsdell are awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2025 for their groundbreaking discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance that prevents the immune system from harming the body.

The Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) is proud to have supported Dr. SAKAGUCHI’s research through initiatives such as the Project for Promotion of Cancer Research and Therapeutic Evolution (P-PROMOTE).

We  remain committed to advancing medical research and development and accelerating the realization of innovative drug discoveries.

Following in the footsteps of previous Japanese laureates - Dr. TONEGAWA Susumu (1987), Dr. YAMANAKA Shinya (2012), Dr. OMURA Satoshi (2015), Dr. OHSUMI Yoshinori (2016), and Dr. HONJO Tasuku (2018)- this award further affirms Japan’s prominent standing in the global medical research community.
