I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Professor Gary Ruvkun of Harvard University on being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and to Professor David Baker of the University of Washington on being awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Professor Gary Ruvkun was awarded for the discovery of the role of microRNA in gene regulation, which holds great promise for new approaches in the early diagnosis and treatment of various diseases.
Professor David Baker was awarded for his work on computational protein design, which is expected to significantly contribute to future drug discovery and disease research.

Professor Gary Ruvkun received a Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Research Grant in 1991, and Professor David Baker received his in 2019. With their Nobel Prizes, the total number of Nobel Prizes awarded to HFSP research grant recipients has now reached 31.

As a Trustee of the International HFSP Organization, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on the well-deserved recognition of their outstanding achievements.
