6th Japan-UK Neuroscience Symposium, 2025
The 6th Japan-UK Neuroscience Symposium was held from 23rd to 26th January 2025, at the Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center, co-hosted by AMED and the UK Medical Research Council (MRC). The symposium aimed to promote information sharing and scientific collaboration among neuroscience researchers from Japan and the UK, welcoming over 60 participants from universities, research institutions, and research support organizations in both countries.
Opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Marie-Louise Taylor, Counsellor at the British Embassy in Japan, and Dr. Yasushi Ogasaka, Director of AMED’s Department of International Strategy. At the end of the first day’s sessions, a welcome address was given by Dr. Ryosuke Takahashi, Program Supervisor of AMED’s Multidisciplinary Frontier Brain and Neuroscience Discoveries (Brain/MINDS 2.0) program.
・Synaptic Physiology & Biochemistry
・Digital Brain & Innovative Techniques
・Neurodegeneration
・Behavior/Learning & Memory/Neuropsychiatry
・Treatment & Biomarkers
These sessions featured presentations by researchers from both countries and lively Q&A discussion. Keynote lectures were delivered by Professor Maria Grazia Spillantini (University of Cambridge) and Professor Kenji Doya (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology). There was also a poster session focusing on the work of young researchers, during which prizes for best poster were awarded to two promising researchers from Japan and the UK respectively. Finally, under the leadership of the Japan and UK organizers, all participants engaged in active discussions on challenges and strategies for advancing future Japan-UK collaborative research.
The Japan-UK Neuroscience Symposium has been held annually, alternating between Japan and the UK, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed by AMED and the MRC in February 2017 and updated in September 2022. AMED and the MRC remain committed to continuing their collaboration to further advance Japan-UK cooperation in the field of neuroscience.
