Public offering content

Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) is pleased to announce Japan-the UK Joint call for proposals in Infectious Diseases research area on SICORP in collaboration with Medical Research Council, the UK (MRC). This is a first project after Memorandum of Corporation has been signed between AMED and MRC.

(1) Research field
“Infectious Diseases”
a) the pathogenesis of lethal viruses, such as the Ebola virus, Lassa virus, or tick-borne viruses
b) Mechanistic insight on latent and persistent infections
c) Exploration of host infection interface eg central nervous system infections by blood-brain barrier failure, trans-placental infections or mucosal-gut barrier
d) Drug resistant pathogens
e) Development of new treatment measures, therapeutic agents, therapeutic strategies concerning any of the above

AMED:
One project 3.75 million yen X 3 years (= 11.25 million yen) X 8 projects = 90 million yen
(One project 3.75 million yen X 8 projects = 30 million yen for a year))
*including indirect costs
MRC:
One project £ 25,000 X 3 years (=£ 75,000) X 8 projects = £ 600,000
(One project £ 25,000 X 8 projects = £ 200,000 for a year)

Program summary

SICORP provides support for international joint research projects on the basis of equal partnership in countries,regions,and fields of cooperation that have been designated as particularly important by the Ministry of Education,Culture,Sports,Science and Technology (MEXT) on the basis of intergovernmental agreements,in collaboration with funding agencies in the countries concerned.

The aim of this program is to contribute solutions to challenges facing world today and to bolster Japan’s scientific and technological capabilities through collaboration with a broad range of countries.
This program, with a view to disseminating excellent research results of our country to the world, expects to achieve synergies and develop mutually by collaborating with foreign countries and regions in science and technology that can be a source of our competitiveness.

How to Apply

The Japan and the UK-based co-applicants shall use the application forms (Case for Support Template) issued by AMED and MRC. The co-applicants from Japan and the UK shall work together to write a proposal and apply electronically as designated in [Application Guideline] IV.

Japan-based co-applicants

Electronic submission of both [MRC-AMED Joint Case for Support Template] and [Additional Application Form (written in Japanese and/or English for only Japan-based co-applicants)] though e-Rad is required by 20:00 (Japanese Standard Time) on September 4th (Wed) 2019.

NOTICE: It is recomended that Applicant (Japanese Co-PI) submit these documents by 17:00 (Japanese Standard Time) on September 3th (Tue) 2019, as Applicant's institute need to confirm and approve all documents. Therefore, please be in time to finish all steps by 17:00 (Japanese Standard Time) on September 4th (Tue) 2019.
