Public offering content

Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), in collaboration with U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is pleased to announce the joint request for proposals on "Infectious Diseases and Immunology Research: US-Japan Cooperative Medical Sciences Program Collaborative Awards, 2023."

Awardees are expected to present their achievements at International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases in the Pacific Rim after 2024.

AMED needs to contract with the Japan sub teams in every fiscal year. 50 % of the total research budget is granted in JFY 2023, and of the research budget (50%) is granted in 2nd fiscal year, in JFY 2024.

Program summary

Overview of US-Japan Cooperative Medical Sciences Program

The US-Japan Cooperative Medical Sciences Program (USJCMSP), one of the oldest bilateral programs in the history of, was established in 1965 (under a U.S. Presidential-Japan Prime Ministerial level agreement) to strengthen Japanese research capacity and address issues of public health importance in the Asia Pacific region. The program continues to maintain its value as a unique tool to foster U.S., Japan, and Asia Pacific Region research collaboration. For more

Eligibility

  • Collaborative research teams consisting of investigators from (1) Japan and the U.S. , or (2) Japan, the U.S., and other Asia Pacific countries, are eligible to apply.
  • On each application both of the Japanese sub-team and the U.S sub team must include as a PI an early-stage or female investigator.
