From June 17 to 23, 2024, President MISHIMA visited Washington D.C., where he made courtesy calls to partner organizations, participated in the 35th Anniversary HFSPO (International Human Frontier Science Program Organization) Symposium, and attended the Annual General Meeting of the HFSPO Board of Trustees (BoT) on which he serves as a trustee from Japan.

On June 17, 2024, President MISHIMA and his delegation made a courtesy visit to Dr. W. Kimryn Rathmell, Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and exchanged views on strategies and challenges in cancer research in both countries, as well as the importance of international collaboration.

On June 18, 2024, President MISHIMA and his delegation made a courtesy visit to H.E. YAMADA Shigeo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the United States of America, to explain about AMED and the status of cooperation with the U.S. They exchanged views on issues related to the promotion of early career researchers studying abroad and challenges for new drug development.

On June 18, 2024, President MISHIMA and his delegation made a courtesy visit to Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). They discussed progress and future prospects for Japan-US collaboration in research, through research programs such as the U.S.-Japan Cooperative Medical Sciences Program (USJCMSP) and the Adopting Sustainable Partnerships for Innovative Research Ecosystem (ASPIRE) program. They also exchanged views on the importance of fostering early career researchers and the need for international efforts in global health to prepare for future pandemics.
