News Releases & Research Results

Outline

The results of research conducted by Professor Seizo Koshiba of the Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization (ToMMo) through the cohort survey by the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project.

The key results of research are as follows:

  • The association analysis between plasma metabolomes (metabolites) and gene polymorphisms in 1,008 individuals in the cohort survey by the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project revealed nearly 50 associations and their details.
  • Most of the associated genes were involved in diseases as previously reported. Besides human metabolites, intestinal bacterial metabolites were influenced by genetic factors. The effects of the genes on metabolites differed with sex and ethnicity.

This project was conducted as part of the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project supported by AMED.

The results were published in the open access academic journal Communications Biology from Nature Research on November 11.
