Conference Report

The Asia Pacific Scientific Workshop was held in Singapore on 4-5 March 2019 at the National University of Singapore, operated by AMED’s Singapore Office. 

The workshop was organized by AMED, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in Australia, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in U.S.A., and the Health Research Council (HRC) in New Zealand, and invited Dr. Tohru Kiyono (AMED Program Officer), Dr. Kiyoshi Kita (AMED Program Officer), Dr. Tadashi Kondo (National Cancer Centre Research Institute) from Japan, Professor Brenden Crabb (Burnet Institute), Professor Karen Canfell (Cancer Council NSW) from Australia, and Dr. Dennis Dixon (NIAID), Dr. Jane Knisely (NIAID), Dr. Malla Rao (NIAID) as the scientific coordinators,.

More than 50 scientists in the area of infectious diseases and cancer research from Japan, Australia, U.S.A., New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao, and Sri Lanka participated in the workshop and explored the possibilities of future international collaborations, through sharing their latest research results on the infectious diseases and cancer from each institutions and countries, as well as discussing possible research areas of international collaborations. Through this workshop, it is anticipated to promote the joint research proposal for existing international joint call such as e-ASIA Joint Research Program.

This workshop was a part of bio-medical research collaboration with NHMRC which is described in the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by AMED and NHMRC in October 2018.

AMED will continue to support providing opportunities for enhancing international research collaborations.
