Research on brain sciences will be promoted strategically to establish “social contribution through brain sciences." While European and U.S. researchers have launched large-scale brain science research projects, we Japanese researchers set the goal of “brain mapping by integrated neurotechnologies for disease studies" beside the “strategic research program for brain sciences," and take an all-Japan approach to accelerate the research on brain sciences. In this manner, we will establish a basis to enable the conquering of neuropsychiatric diseases and sophistication of the information processing theory ahead of the rest of the world. Concerning how nerve cells form the neural circuit and how they process information to enable realization of the brain functions with greater wholeness, we will make efforts to exploit our advantageous technologies to clarify the whole picture and establish a basis for clarification of the higher brain functions in humans leading to the conquering of neuropsychiatric diseases.
