Public offering content

Bridging the fundamental mechanism of aging and the effective treatment of age-related disease associated with impaired functional system

Program Supervisor (PS): MOCHIZUKI Naoki, Director General, National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center

Program Officer (PO): FUKAMIZU Akiyoshi, Director, Life Science Center for Survival Dynamics, Tsukuba Advanced Research Alliance, University of Tsukuba

Program Officer (PO): YASUTOMO Koji, Professor, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Tokushima University

This R&D area aims to clarify the biology of the basic mechanisms involved in aging and to develop medical approaches mediated via these mechanisms. The programs will include research that uses the most up-to-date analytical technologies (genetic, imaging, omics analysis) and can be progressed from analysis in model organisms through to applied research. This R&D area will be implemented by AMED and JST together, with the two organizations liaising closely to promote the research.

Immunological memory: Understanding, regulation and medical innovation

Program Supervisor (PS): NAKAYAMA Toshinori, President, Chiba University

Program Officer (PO): TAKEDA Kiyoshi, Professor, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University

We welcome R&D proposals that will contribute to: (1) a new and fundamental understanding of how human immunological memory is formed, maintained, and lost; (2) clarification of novel mechanisms of cancer immunity mediated by human immunological memory; (3) an understanding of human immunological memory against infectious diseases in societies living with COVID-19 and after the COVID-19 pandemic; and (4) development of novel methods controlling allergic and autoimmune diseases, based on an understanding of human immunological memory.

Integrated understanding of multi-sensing networks and elucidation of their control mechanisms leading to the innovation of medical technologies

Program Supervisor (PS): NAGAI Ryozo, President, Jichi Medical University

Program Officer (PO): TAKEUCHI Shoji, Professor, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo

Program Officer (PO): NISHIDA Kohji, Professor, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University

This R&D area aims to develop an integrated understanding of multi-sensory systems that includes sensory systems and peripheral nerve networks, and create innovative seeds for medical technologies based on an understanding of control mechanisms. This R&D area is implemented by AMED and JST together, with the two organizations liaising closely to promote the research.

Generating research infrastructure and novel technologies for anti-infective drug and vaccine discovery

Program Supervisor (PS): DOI Yohei, Professor, Departments of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Fujita Health University School of Medicine / Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Program Officer (PO): MATSUURA Yoshiharu, Director, Center for Infectious Diseases Education and Research (CiDER) and SA Professor, Laboratory of Virus Control, Research Institute for Microbial Diseases (RIMD), Osaka University

We call for research proposals in the following specific areas: (1) develop new approaches, including drug discovery modalities, that will contribute to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases; (2) optimize existing modalities for infectious disease drug discovery; and (3) develop technology platforms that will accelerate infectious disease drug discovery and generate innovative preventive and therapeutic agents against infectious diseases.

Understanding proteostasis and discovering innovative medical applications

Program Supervisor (PS): NAGATA Kazuhiro, Director General, JT Biohistory Research Hall

Program Officer (PO): ENDO Tamao, Senior Fellow, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology

We invite proposals for innovative basic research that takes a transdisciplinary approach with the goal of understanding protein denaturation, regeneration, aggregation, and degradation processes, in terms of an understanding of normal maturation processes and the relationship with disease.

Solicitation Period

04/12/22 Tue - 05/31/22 Tue Noon (Japan standard time) No exceptions for delay
