Overview
This program leverages relationships with overseas research centers in Asia and Africa by promoting epidemiological research on pathogens of prevalent infectious diseases and basic research on its diagnostic methods and drugs. It also encourages to cultivate specialists who have highly skills for infections diseases research training of expert of infections diseases. The most priority subjects of this program are influenza, dengue fever, antimicrobial resistant strains, and infectious diarrheal diseases. Other infectious diseases (e.g., tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, severe childhood pneumonia, and chikungunya fever) are also subjects grounded upon domestic needs that are based on consideration of risks of the virus introduction to Japan and the severity of the diseases. This program strengthens the collaboration between universities and research institutes in Japan. It also prioritizes research theme and development of the research infrastructure in overseas research centers.
