This program promotes the practical application of iPS cells, etc. by establishing a research system that facilitates research on safety and standards, the construction of iPS cell stock for regenerative medicine, and aims for realization of regenerative medicine by disease and tissue. It aims to connect regenerative medicine and drug discoveries using iPS cells, etc. for clinical applications, prior to their introduction to the world.

Core Center for iPS Cell Research

Conducting long-term research toward building up a stock of iPS cells for regenerative medicine while advancing standardization and securing the safety of clinical applications of iPS cells.

Centers for Clinical Application Research on Specific Disease/Organ(Type A/B)

Carrying out the required research and development to implement clinical research using the iPS cells for regenerative medicine produced at the Core Center for iPS Cell Research, and aim at the realization regenerative medicine on disease/organ.

Type A:
Fields where clinical applications can be expected within five years.
Type B:
Fields where technological breakthroughs are required for clinical application.

Projects for Technological Development

Aiming at technology development to expand the range of clinical applications of iPS cells and realize more advanced regenerative medicine while collaborating with the above centers.

Highway Program for Realization of Regenerative Medicine

For the early realization of regenerative medicine, the concerned ministries and agencies support regenerative medicine research and accelerate research in collaboration with the research centers on disease/organ.

The Program for Intractable Diseases Research utilizing Disease-specific iPS cells (FY2012-2016)

The Program for Intractable Diseases Research utilizing Disease-specific iPS cells.

The Acceleration Program for Intractable Diseases Research utilizing Disease-specific iPS cells (FY2017-)

Further research on rare/intractable diseases that disease-specific iPS cells are expected to play a major role in clarifying pathogenesis, drug discovery, and developing a novel therapies.

The Program for Technological Innovation of Regenerative Medicine

This implements objective-achievement-type basic research, based on original ideas that advance the development of the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine, also contributing to the realization of next-generation innovative medicine. Since the continuous development of research requires training of human resources, it will also provide support for those in the field, especially young researchers.
